We’ve recently received several questions about the Port Madison Indian Reservation sign near Beachwood and Beach Avenue, and whether Miller Bay Estates (MBE) is part of the Suquamish Tribal community or located on tribal land.
Miller Bay Estates is not owned by the Suquamish Tribe.
While MBE is located within the boundaries of the Port Madison Indian Reservation (as defined by Kitsap County), the land is privately owned by residents and homeowners. This situation—where private ownership exists within reservation boundaries—is common.
Jurisdiction:
MBE is located in unincorporated rural Kitsap County, not tribal jurisdiction. That means your property is governed by Kitsap County Code, and all permits (such as for construction or renovations) are obtained through the County, not through the Tribe.
Emergency Services:
We’re fortunate to have police support from the Suquamish Police Department, who often respond more quickly than the Kitsap County Sheriff due to proximity. They work in cooperation with the Sheriff's Office to ensure our community is protected.
